Bigger Is Not Better!
For Comfort and Energy Savings You Need The Right Size
Heating And Cooling System For Your Home
There are six ways to size a heating and cooling system for a home . . . only one way is the right way.
- Over the phone.
- Standing at the curb in front of the home.
- Standing at the front door looking in.
- Replacing with the same size.
- Installing the size a homeowner wants.
- Taking the time to size it right using Manual J (or equivalent).
A properly trained and knowledgeable contractor will calculate the right size furnace and air conditioner by measuring the following elements of your home:
- The square footage of living space.
- The number of floors.
- The type of construction: wood, brick or block.
- The thickness of insulation in the walls, ceiling and floor.
- The number of the doors and windows and their direction (North, South, East and West).
With the information gathered about your home, our technician can calculate the correctly sized heating and cooling system using a formula supplied by Manual J (or equivalent). Ultimately, the equipment we provide will be the exact size needed for your home. This is the first of the three critical installation components that provides the best value for your money with year-round comfort and without high energy costs.
Consumer Reports stated: “Beware of being sold an over-sized unit. An over-sized air conditioner will cycle on and off more frequently, causing noticeable temperature swings, higher energy costs and putting more wear on the equipment.”
