Heating & Cooling
Homeowners expect heating and air conditioning contractors to have the training and knowledge to deliver the Energy Efficiency rating of the heating and cooling system they spent their hard-earned money on. What’s sad for homeowners is that the majority of contractors simply don’t know how to provide this service. Sadder yet, many simply don’t care!
There are three critical installation components that come into play in order to deliver the Energy Efficiency rating of a heating and cooling system:
| 1. | The duct system must be tested with special airflow instruments to detect any hidden problems. | |
| 2. | Equipment must be sized correctly (bigger is not better) for your home. | |
| 3. | The contractor must have the knowledge and training to use the strict guidelines of the equipment manufacturers for installation and start up procedures. |
The only possible way you’ll get the Energy Efficiency rating from a heating and cooling system is to learn how to avoid a contractor that skips any one of these three critical installation components.
A well-known utility study showed that 9 out of every 10 new heating and cooling systems had energy wasting mistakes due to errors or oversights by the installing contractor. Also the EPA states: “Newly installed heating and cooling systems that are under or over-sized, improperly charged, or connected to a poorly designed duct system will not deliver its rated efficiency.”
Needless to say, a very important part - and the most difficult of your buying process – is picking the right contractor.
